Dining at Mahana

Here at Mahana our focus is on fresh produce and locally sourced ingredients wherever possible. We offer a fully catered option if you would like to have an evening meal, breakfast and packed lunch included with your stay. Alternatively, you can opt for accommodation only which includes a complimentary continental breakfast. This features farm fresh eggs, cereals, fresh fruit, toast and spreads and, of course, juice, tea and coffee. 

Lodge Manager David offers guests the opportunity to join his Chef's Table, a three course dining experience enjoyed in the delightful conservatory alongside the historic homestead - a casually elegant dining experience that regularly receives rave reviews and is not to be missed. It features locally sourced fresh produce and is prepared by David, who is a former restaurateur and food writer. Dinner is $75 per person and booking in advance is essential to secure your place.

The Chef's Table

Our three course Chef’s Table is an event dinner, not a heavy meal, involving a light entrée, main and light desert that fits well with walkers. Chef David has developed these menus over many years and knows how to delight the taste buds! The Chef’s Table gives guests a unique experience and is often rated as a highlight of the Queen Charlotte Track. Chef David will explain the menu, where the food comes from, how it gets to Mahana in the remote Marlborough Sounds, why he chooses certain products over others, the regionality of the food, how he cooks it and any story that goes with the product, farmer and supplier. Our extensive wine list also has a story behind every wine. The Chef’s Table is not just a meal, it’s an experience.

We also have an extensive selection of beers and wines available, carefully chosen to showcase the best of Marlborough, New Zealand’s largest wine growing area known internationally for its Sauvignon Blanc but also to match and complement David's menu. You may bring your own wine if you wish but there is a corkage fee.

Packed lunches are also available to take on your day’s adventure, hiking or biking along the Queen Charlotte Track, or kayaking to a nearby beach. Our lunches are designed for hungry adventurers with sandwiches made from chunky home-made bread and home baking to give you plenty of energy for the day. These are available for $25 per person.

We are happy to cater for special dietary requirements including gluten free, vegetarian and dairy free diets. Please let us know in advance so we can be prepared for you. Please note that there are no facilities for guests to cook their own evening meal on site.
